What to Expect

On Sundays

Sunday Morning

At First Baptist Church our goal is to love God and love others, so you can expect to be greeted and welcomed as we seek to learn more about God.  We gather each week to focus on what the Bible tells us about how we should respond to him and how we should treat each other. We take an offering every week, which is the time when our members and regular attenders give back to God part of what He has blessed them with, but we do not expect visitors to contribute. We sing worship songs together, pray, and read the Bible. Sometimes our choir sings special music. Our pastor preaches directly from the text of God’s Word and usually speaks for 35-40 minutes after which many people stay after the service for informal fellowship.

FAQ’s

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear?

We would ask that you wear modest and comfortable clothing. Some of our church family wear suits, and others wear jeans. We are more interested in what's going on in your heart than your clothing. We have no dress code.

What is your music style?

Our music is conservative. We sing a blend of traditional hymns as well as newer songs sung in a conservative style. Our singing is accompanied by piano, and sometimes by violin and acoustic guitar. We love music that points our hearts to God.

Where do I go?

When you arrive for our morning service, we invite you to use the north entrance with the wide concrete sidewalk. Enter through the double doors and an usher will welcome you and hand you a bulletin which contains all the information you need for the service. If you come early for Sunday school someone will help you find the appropriate class.

How long is your service?

Our morning worship service starts at 10am and usually lasts about an hour.

We also have Sunday school available from 9-9:45am, and Bible studies for men and women on Sunday nights from 6-7pm.

What about child care?

We have volunteers available in our nursery to care for children through the age of  3 years old during our Sunday school and morning service. These volunteers are members who have completed our child safety classes.  During the service we have activity bags available for children as they sit with you at our Welcome Center.

Does it cost money?

Our Sunday school is free to all. Our morning service has an offering time, but as a visitor we are glad you are here and the only thing we want you to pay is to God. The offering is for our church family to give money back to God as He has blessed them. If you want to give, we won't prevent you, but we don't expect it.

What we believe

Our statement of Faith

What We Believe

When He was on earth the Lord Jesus Christ said that the two things God wants us to do is to love Him and love each other. Everything we do at First Baptist Church is geared towards these goals.  Our church exists to worship God, to connect with each other, to grow in our knowledge of what God wants from us and in our love for Him and others, and to reach the world around us with the good news of Jesus Christ, that even though we all stand condemned before God because of our own sin, God the Father sent His Son Jesus Christ to live a sinless life, to die on the cross to pay for our sin, taking our place, and to rise from the dead demonstrating not only His power over death but His ability to raise from the dead those of us who have trusted in Him for salvation.

The Bible

We believe that the 66 books of the Bible were inspired by God and were 100% without error as originally given, and what we have are accurate copies worthy of our confidence in their truth. The Bible is our sole authority for our faith and practice.

Thessalonians 2:13

The Trinity

We believe that there is only one God, and in the unity of the Godhead there are three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in every divine perfection with distinct but harmonious activities.

Thessalonians 2:13

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is God the Son, coequal and coeternal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. He is fully God and approximately 2000 years ago He added humanity to His Divinity when He became a man so that He is now fully God and fully man.  He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross to take our place as our substitute in receiving God's wrath for our sin, and rose from the dead bodily three days later. His resurrection guarantees the resurrection of all those who trust in Him for salvation, and He is coming back for us someday, though we do not know when.

Salvation

We believe that salvation is by grace through faith alone in the completed work of Christ on the cross. There is no combination of words or works that can secure an individual's salvation but is only available as that person repents of their sin and places their trust in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ to obtain forgiveness for their sins and satisfy God's righteous demand for justice.

Church

We believe the church was instituted by God and exists in His plan as the chief method through which He is operating on earth in this present age. The local church is a necessary and vital part of each believer's growth and obedience to the Lord. We exist to gather together regularly to praise and worship God, to observe His commanded ordinances of baptism and the Lord's supper, to edify and encourage each other as we all seek to grow closer to Christlikeness and become the disciples that Christ wants us to be.

Thessalonians 2:13

End Times

We believe that the current age will continue until Jesus Christ removes all of His disciples (both living and dead) from the earth at the rapture, which will happen at an unspecified time in the future. We reject all date-setting for this event since Christ said nobody on earth knows when it will be. After the rapture the world will go through a seven year period of judgment by God, after which the Lord Christ will return to earth along with those who have trusted in Him, and He will rule the earth from Jerusalem for 1000 years before the final judgment and eternity future.
